You can opt for different groupings of tyres and these are generally divided into 3 groupings, Budget, Mid-Range and Premium (Branded) tyres. Each have their own benefits in terms of price, longevity, value etc. For a rough guide to each group see below.
Unlike mid-range and premium tyres, budget tyres tend to be manufactured by companies that you may not have heard of and using material and processes that may not meet the exacting standards of mid-range and premium tyres. This doesn't mean they are not safe but rather there is a trade off between wear, durabilty and standards. Manufacturers of mid-range and premium tyres will most likely exceed the minimum standards whilst manufacturers of budget tyres may only meet the standards.
When is comes to wet weather budget tyres may not perform as well as their pricier counterparts and it is suggested that at motorway speeds the difference at 70mph could be as much as 15 metres.
Another consideration could be the amount of mileage you do, if you typically cover a lot of mileage each year, then the cost per mile with a budget tyre with less durability could ultimately be higher than those of a mid-range or premium tyre. Visit for Cheddar tyres.
If you want to get a balance between wear, durabilty and cost then a mid-range tyre may be the best option for you. Mid-range tyres tend to straddle the middle ground between durability and price given they don't have the hefty price tag normally commanded by the premium (branded) tyre manufacturers.
With mid-range tyres the manufacturers invariubly seek to exceed the 'minimim standards' providing a good blend of safety, wear and performance capability. Mid-range tyres will normally offer great performance on both wet and dry conditions without denting your bank balance too much.
It is worth remembering that mid-range tyres are often made by some of the best known tyre manufactures but marketing under a different name with a lower price tag.
A good example would be Dunlop which a great allrounder as a mid-range tyre. Other mid-range tyres manufacturers include brands such as; Uniroyal, Cooper and Kumho. In summary mid-range tyres offer great value, are likely manufactured to a better standard than budget tyres and offer great value but, perormance could be slightly compromised. Basically they use the same or similar materials to branded products but the technology used may not be as advanced. For the average driver and car they are sensible choice.
That old adage "you get what you pay for" could be applied to premium tyres but with one or two caveats. Yes, premium manufactures tend to invest more in research and development and use the very latest technolgy in the manufacture of their tyres but, this comes as a hefty premium.
Company car users will tend to exchange tyres on a 'like for like' basis which means they will most likely be fitted with a premium tyre. Private users on the other hand have a choice. For high performance cars premium tyres are most likely the best option in terms of safety, braking distances, wet weather performance, durability and wear.
Whilst the initial price will be higher (in some cases much higher) than mid-range and budget tyres users can expect their tyres have manufactured using access to the latest technology, the tyres will offer greater durability and all round performance.
With the better durability the cost per mile will likely be less than budget tyres and comparable (in many cases) to that provided by mid-range tyres. Premium trye manufacturers would include, but is not limited to; Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear and Bridgestone.
